Some people live in a town environment ; for others, their environment is the countryside.
Nowadays people understand how important it is to solve the environment problems that endanger people’s lives.
The most serious environmental problems are : pollution in its many forms (water pollution, air pollution, nuclear pollution), noise from cars, buses, planes, etc.
, destruction of wildlife and countryside beauty, shortage of natural resources (metals, different kinds of fuel), the growth of population.
There is no ocean or sea, which is not used as a dump.
Many seas are used for dumping industrial and nuclear waste.
This poisons and kills fish and sea animals.
"Nuclear - poisoned" fish can be eaten by people.
Many rivers and lakes are poisoned too.
Fish and reptiles can’t live in them.
There is not enough oxygen in the water.
In such places all the birds leave their habitats and many plants die.
If people drink this water they can die too.
It happens so because factories produce a lot of waste and pour it into rivers.
So they poison water.
Most of the pollution in big cities comes from cars and buses.
More and more often people are told not to be in direct sunlight, because ultraviolet radiation from the sun can cause skin cancer.
Normally the ozone layer in the atmosphere protects us from such radiation, but if there are holes in the ozone layer ultraviolet radiation can get to the earth.
Many scientists think that these holes are the result of air pollution.
Both clean air and clean water are necessary for our health.
If people want to survive they must solve these problems quickly.
Man is beginning to understand that his environment is not just his own town or country, but the whole earth.
That’s why people all over the world think and speak so much about ecology.

They think about air, water, plants and animals on the Earth.
They say our planet is in danger.
Many people do not know how to protect animal and plant worlds, how to keep the waters clean and the air fresh.
But they are ready to do it.
They try and help nature.
Water is very important for life on the Earth.
It is in oceans, seas, rivers and lakes.
There is much water on our planet and at the same time there is little water on it.
It is so because very little water on the Earth is good for drinking.
In many rivers and lakes water is very dirty.
Sometimes people cannot swim even in the sea because the sea and the seaside are not clean.
In many places water is not drinkable.
It is dangerous to use it when you cook.
Even fish die in such water.
For example Lake Baikal is the deepest freshwater lake on the Earth.
It is 1741 metres deep.
The lake is very beautiful but now it is in great danger, because of the factories which are near it.
At some places the water in the lake is so dirty that it can kill animals and plants in Baikal and near it.
The way people live has changed the climate on our planet.
Nowadays the temperature is rising.
You do not have real Russian winter in Moscow any more.
In the north of Europe the climate has become milder and warmer too.
If the temperature grows by 3 - 4 degrees it will be impossible to live on the planet.
Some people’s activities do a lot of harm to the forests.
People cut down trees to build farms, homes and roads.
Many animals and plants lose their homes.
This is bad for the Earth’s air too.
Modern plants and factories send a lot of smoke into air.
This is also very bad, because nowadays it’s difficult to breathe in big cities.
So, the problem now is to protect life on the Earth, to save our planet for people.

Everybody talk about pollution nowadays : land pollution, water pollution, air pollution.
Pollution is the result of industrialization and it threatens everything living : plants, animals and people.
It is dangerous for life.
Our plants and factories put their waste materials into water and atmosphere and pollute the environment.
There are many kids of transport in our big cities.
That is why we must pay attention to the protection of our nature and the health of the people.
The examples are numerous : the waters of the Aral Sea are polluted and it became much less than some years ago, the Caspian Sea becomes smaller too.
Radiation is one of the main problems in the world.
It is not good for health of people.
Many people died from radiation some years ago in Chernobyl and people from Almaty suffer from radioactivity.
It was tragedy.
Another problem is earthquake.
Our scientists try to forecast earthquakes, and then we can protect ourselves from them.
The people all over the world will do everything to protect their nature ; will make their country richer and their life happier.
They want to protect their future.

Water Pollution There has been bad pollution of Britain's rivers, and the government has tried to stop it.
There are now strict laws against water pollution, though it still quite often happens accidentally.
Britain and France share the problem of oil pollution from the Channel.
This has caused great damage to beaches and wildlife.
Cars and Roads The need for new roads causes great environmental difficul¬ties.
They often spoil the countryside and bring noise and air pollution to thousands of homes.
Since 1958 the population of Britain has increased by 11 per cent, but the number of cars has increased by 400 per cent.
Cars cause other problems too : thousands of people die in car accidents ; car parks use valuable space in towns and cities ; cars use a lot of our limited amount of oil.
Friends of the Earth suggest that the bicycle is the best way to travel because it's cheap, quiet and riding it keeps you healthy.
However, there are far fewer cyclists in Britain than in some other European countries, so our roads aren't built for cycling.
It can be dangerous to cycle in large cities as British motorists don't seem to notice cyclists.
Some people think that only buses and bicycles should be allowed in our city centres.

Many of them are old, sick animals.
Most tigers don't hunt people now adays, but hide from them in deep, dark forests.
Or they rather hid there earlier, because there aren't many forests for tigers nowedays.
People have cut down many trees.
And the question is : "Have those animals got a future?
" We can ask the same question about African elephants.
They are wonderful animals.
They can help man.
In the 19th century Africa was full of elephants.
But these days there are not many of them except in African parks.
This is the sad story of Indian tigers and African elephants.
But many less dangerous wild animals and birds are also disappearing from the Earth.
Modern life is bad for them.
The air is not fresh.

They dan't often have good things to eat and space to live.

People must take special care of them all.

Our earth is our home.
I thing people must take care of our Motherland.
There are some laws and decisions on this important subject.
We have state organizations which pay attentions to this problem.
The international conventions pay much attention to the control of pollution too.
There are a lot of industrial enterprises in our country that's why we can't ignore the problem of the protection of our environment.
Our main aim is the protection.
Our environment must be clean.
What must we do for it?
We have to control atmospheric and water pollution, to study the man's influence on the climate.
The pollution of the environment influences the life of animals, plants and our human life.
The environment is all the things we need to be able to live - clear water to drink and to wash with, air to breathe and healthy food to eat?
