Since ancient times Nature has served Man, being the source of his life.
For thousands of years people lived in harmony with environment and it seemed to them that natural riches were unlimited.
But with the development of civilization man's interference in nature began to increase.
Many people concerned about ecology today because it is of vital importance for humanity.
Everybody talk about pollution nowadays : land pollution, water pollution, air pollution.
Pollution is the result of industrialization and it threatens everything living : plants, animals and people.
It is dangerous for life.
Our plants and factories put their waste materials into water and atmosphere and pollute the environment.
There are many kids of transport in our big cities.
That is why we must pay attention to the protection of our nature and the health of the people.
The examples are numerous : the waters of the Aral Sea are polluted and it became much less than some years ago, the Caspian Sea becomes smaller too.
Radiation is one of the main problems in the world.
It is not good for health of people.
Many people died from radiation some years ago in Chernobyl and people from Almaty suffer from radioactivity.
It was tragedy.
Another problem is earthquake.
Our scientists try to forecast earthquakes, and then we can protect ourselves from them.
The people all over the world will do everything to protect their nature ; will make their country richer and their life happier.
They want to protect their future.

Normally the ozone layer in the atmosphere protects us from such radiation, but if there are holes in the ozone layer ultraviolet radiation can get to the earth.
Many scientists think that these holes are the result of air pollution.
Nuclear power stations can go wrong and cause nuclear pollution.
This happened in Windscale in Britain, in Three Mile Island in the USA and Chernobyl in Ukraine.
Nuclear pollution cannot be seen but its effects can be terrible.
To make air clean again we need good filters at nuclear power stations, at factories and plants and also in cars and buses.
Both clean air and clean water are necessary for our health.
If people want to survive they must solve these problems quickly.
Man is beginning to understand that his environment is not just his own town or country, but the whole earth.
That’s why people all over the world think and speak so much about ecology.

Some people are afraid of tigers and kill them to save their domestic animals and their lives.
But some people have often hunted tigers for fun and for their beautiful skin.
They can easily sell the skin and get a lot of money as the prices are high.
The result is very sad.
There are few Indian tigers left on the Earth now.
Many of them are old, sick animals.
Most tigers don't hunt people now adays, but hide from them in deep, dark forests.
Or they rather hid there earlier, because there aren't many forests for tigers nowedays.
People have cut down many trees.
And the question is : "Have those animals got a future?
" We can ask the same question about African elephants.
They are wonderful animals.
They can help man.
In the 19th century Africa was full of elephants.
But these days there are not many of them except in African parks.
This is the sad story of Indian tigers and African elephants.
But many less dangerous wild animals and birds are also disappearing from the Earth.
Modern life is bad for them.
The air is not fresh.
The water is not clean.
They dan't often have good things to eat and space to live.
You can find their names in the Red Book.
You can find the names of some fish there too.
People must take special care of them all.

There are many big and small rivers, green forests, high mountain, lakes and seas in russia.
Our earth is our home.
I thing people must take care of our Motherland.
There are some laws and decisions on this important subject.
We have state organizations which pay attentions to this problem.
The international conventions pay much attention to the control of pollution too.
There are a lot of industrial enterprises in our country that's why we can't ignore the problem of the protection of our environment.
Our main aim is the protection.
Our environment must be clean.
What must we do for it?
We have to control atmospheric and water pollution, to study the man's influence on the climate.
The pollution of the environment influences the life of animals, plants and our human life.

"Nuclear - poisoned" fish can be eaten by people.
Many rivers and lakes are poisoned too.
Fish and reptiles can’t live in them.
There is not enough oxygen in the water.
In such places all the birds leave their habitats and many plants die.
If people drink this water they can die too.
It happens so because factories produce a lot of waste and pour it into rivers.
So they poison water.

стал вмешиваться в природу.
Во всем мире появляются большие города с тысячами дымящих промышленных
предприятий.
Побочные продукты их деятельности загрязняют воздух, которым мы
дышим, воду, которую мы пьем, землю, на которой мы выращиваем пшеницу и овощи.
Каждый год мировая промышленность вырабатывает один миллион тонн пыли и
других вредных веществ.
Многие города страдают от смога.
Огромные леса
вырубаются и сжигаются.
Их исчезновение нарушает кислородный баланс.
В
результате некоторые редкие виды животных, птиц, рыб и растений навсегда
исчезают.
Высыхают многие реки и озера.
Загрязнение воздуха и мирового океана, разрушение озонового слоя являются
результатом небрежного обращения с природой, признаком экологического кризиса.
Самая ужасная экологическая катастрофа постигла Украину и ее народ после
чернобыльской трагедии в апреле 1986 г.
Также около восемнадцати процентов
территории Белоруссии было загрязнено радиоактивными веществами.
Был нанесен
большой урон сельскому хозяйству, лесам и здоровью людей.
Последствия этого
взрыва на атомной станции трагические для украинцев, белорусов и других наций.
Защита окружающей среды — всеобщая забота.
Вот почему необходимо принять
серьезные меры для разработки системы экологической безопасности.
В этом напрвлении уже достигнут определенный прогресс.
159 стран — членов
ООН организовали агентства по защите окружающей среды.
Этими агентствами были
проведены многочисленные конференции, на которых обсуждались проблемы, стоящие
перед экологически неблагополучными регионами, включая Аральское море, Южный
Урал, Кузбасс, Донбасс, Семипалатинск и Чернобыль.
На озере Байкал был открыт международный центр ш> ; следований окружающей
среды.
Международная организация "Гринпис" делает многое для того,
чтобы сохранить окружающую среду.
Но это всего лишь первые шаги, и надо двигаться вперед, защищая природу,
сохраняя жизнь на планете, не только ради настоящего, но и для будущих
поколений.
