A SEA STORY We asked our friend Captain Brown' one evening to tell us something, interesting about his voyages, and he told us the following story : “It was fifteen years ago, when I was a mate on a ship which was .

The captain came up to me one morning and said : “Last night I heard such a strange thing that I don't know what to do about it.

The captain told the men to sail north - north - west.
One of the men saw something black in the sea the next day.
The captain looked through his glasses and said to me : “There’s smafll boat there with a man in it.
I was right last night, wasn’t I?
We must save him”.
Soon we reached the small boat and saw that the man in it was fast asleep.
He went on sleeping while we took him into our boat and sailed towards the ship.
When the man was aboard „the ship, he suddenly opened his eyes and cried out loudly, “Where am I?
Where’s my boat?
”“Hullo!
” said the captain.
“I’m very pleased that we have been able to save you.
”“Did you order your men to take me out of my boat while I was asleep?
" the man asked.
“Of course, ” answered the happy captain.
“Did you want to be drowned in your little boat?
”“Look here, ” said the man, “My name’s Captain Wil son and I’m making a record voyage from New York to Liverpool in a small boat.

Aesop, a Greek philosopher, was famous for his jokes.
One day Aesop was out for a walk when he saw a man.
The man was lost.
The man greeted Aesop and asked him, "How long will it take me to get to the town?
" "Go, " said Aesop.
The traveler didn't understand the reply.
"I know that I have to go, " he said and repeated his question, but Aesop's reply was the same.
"Go, " he said again very politely.
The traveller went away.
"The man is mad, " he decided.
After the traveller had gone some distance, Aesop shouted after him, "You'll get to the town in two hours.
"The traveller came back to Aesop and asked : "Why didn't you tell me that before?
" "I didn't tell you because I didn't know how fast you could walk, " Aesop replied.

He married a beautiful girl.
And the there of them lived very happily together.

There was a big flood near our house in spring.
The water came down from the mountain and the hills, the river came up and u p, and a lot of the houses on the low land were soon under the water.
The Red Cross sent some men, and they brought food and dry clothes, and took some people to higher ground in boats.
One old man lives in a small house near our river.
He is a poor man, and there aren't any other houses near his.
There was a lot of rain one night, and in the morning the old man looked out of his window and saw the flood.
The water was nearly up to his bedroom window.
The water came up and u p, and the old man went to the top floor of his house.
Then the flood was worse, and he went up on to the roof.
"What am I going to do?
" he said.
"The water's very deep, and I can't swim.
" But after three hours the old man saw a boat.
It came slowly near, and the old man saw two young men in it.
"We've come from the Red Cross, " one of the young men called, "and .
. . " "I'm sorry, " the old man answered, "but I've just given you some money this month, and I haven't got much.

It was a new ship called the Titanic.
For two days the Titanic went on its way over the sea.
Them it entered an ice field and big iceberg hit it.
Everyone came out of their rooms.
Men were putting the life boats over the sides of the ship down into the water.
Then all the men helped the women and children get into the life boats.
There wasn't very much time left.
The iceberg was on one side of the ship.
It was like a high white wall.
A woman came to the side of the schip.
Her two children were in one of the life boats and she was very much afraid.
''My children are on the life boat.
I must go with them, ''the woman called to the people in the life boat.
''There's no more room, ''someone called out.
''If we take one more the life boat will sink.
''There was a young woman in the life boat called Miss Evans.
When she heard the woman calling, she stood up on the life boat and touched one of the men on the arm.
''Let me get back on the ship, '' she said.
''Let that woman take my place.
I have no children.
''The ship is sinking, ''said the man.
''You know that?
'' ''Yes, '' said Miss Evans.

'' There was no time to talk.
People helped Miss Evans get back onto the ship.
Very soon after that there was a great noise and the Titanic wend down under the water .
