The Greenpeace movement emerged as a voice of the fragile Earth.
It was founded in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1971.
The movement became most famous for its activism all over the world, and its volunteers would visit places where activities were deemed harmful to the Earth or threatened the life of a group with extinction.
In 1971, volunteers set sail on a small boat to Amchitka in Alaska where they planned to witness underground nuclear testing.
Although the boat never reached its destination and was turned back by the US military, this campaign was considered the first using the name Greenpeace.
In a series of protests in the 1980s, when they campaigned successfully against international whaling, volunteers went out on boats in the seas and put themselves between the harpoon and the whale.
Greenpeace operates all around the world.
Since the beginning of their existence, the Greenpeace movement has campaigned for stopping climate change, protecting rainforests, saving the oceans, eliminating toxic chemicals, stopping the threat of nuclear extermination, and encouraging sustainable trade.
They also campaign against genetic engineering.
