He's one of the most famous characters in film history and over three billion people have watched him - that's half the world's population!

Since 1962 he's been in twenty films, or one film every two years.

Who is he?

He's Bond .

James Bond.

The British writer, Ian Fleming, created James Bond in 1953.

Fleming was a typical English 'gentleman'.

He was educated at Eton (an expensive school in England), then worked as a journalist before becoming a banker in London.

However, during the war his life completely changed when he worked as a spy in Russia.

He wrote most of his novels about his own interesting experiences.

Although the Bond novels were exciting action stories about spies, they didn't become well known until they were made into films.

When the first film Or No opened in Britain in 1962, Fleming became famous overnight.

However, it wasn't untilGoldfinger in 1964 that James Bond became successful around the world.

Goldfinger broke box office records at home and abroad.

The phrase `I'm Bond .

James Bond' was recognised all over the world.

Will Bond films continue to entertain us in the future?

The answer is probably 'yes'.

There will always be James Bond fans because audiences will always enjoy exciting thrillers.

The last film, The World Is Not Enough, made an amazing £6.

2 million in its first weekend!

The truth is that James Bond films, with their fast cars, spy gadgets and dangerous missions, are the ultimate action movies.

He was educated ( past Simple passive) at Eton (an expensive school in England), then worked as a journalist before becoming a banker in London.

Он обучался в Итоне (дорогостоящая школа в Англии), затем работал журналистом, до того как стать банкиром в Лондоне.

Although the Bond novels were exciting action stories about spies, they didn't become well known until they were made (past Simple passive) into films.

Хотя романы о Бонде были захватывающими рассказами / историями о шпионах, они не стали популярными / хорошо известными, до тех пор пока по ним не были сняты фильмы.

The phrase `I'm Bond .

James Bond' was recognised ( past Simple Passive)all over the world.

Фраза “ Бонд .

Джеймс Бонд” была признана / узнаваема во всем мире.

The First Cinema Films.

One of the first cinema films was made by Edison, but the intervals between his photographic exposures were too short - about forty - eight photographs taken (and shown) to the second.

The human eye could not see them so fast and the movements therefore appeared very jerky.

This made the eyestired.

When Edison's machine was brought to France to show films, it was seen there by Auguste and Louis Lumiere.

These two brothers soon made a camera and projector that worked at about 16 photographs per second.

This reduced the jerkiness very much, and in December 1895 the Lumiere brothers gave the worlds's first real cinematograph show.

Their film was called The Arrival of a Train at a Station.

The film was so good that some of the audience almost expected the train to rush out at them from the screen.

In 1903 one of Edison's cameramen made a new long picture.

It was called «The Life of an American Fireman».

People liked it and asked for more ; and so more films of this kind were made.

More cinemas were built.

These first films had no sound.

When it was necessary, printed words were thrown on the screen to explain what was happening or what people were saying.

Usually music was played during the showing of a film.

If the film was showing moonlight on the sea, the music was gentle and sweet.

If there was a fight or a storm, the music wasloud and noisy.

The story of the famous and talented Brontё family is strange and unusual.

The Brontё children — five girls and a boy — lived with their father and aunt in Yorkshire.

All the children were in poor health.

Two of the girls died while they were still at school.

Bramwell, the boy, was good at writing poetry.

But he died at the age of 31.

Anne, who wrote poetry and two novels, died at 29.

Emily, who became world famous as the author of "Wuthering Heights", died a year after the book was published in 1847.

Charlotte, the author of the wonderful novel “Jane Eyre", was the only one strong enough to go out into the world and live her own life for a while.

But even she died at the early age of 39.

It was nearly impossible to believe that these wonder ful books were written by young women who had not seen anything of the world except the life of their own family.

Nobody knew that the Brontё children had learned to write stories while they were playing.

They didn’t like to play noisy games.

The game they liked best of all was writing little stories of their own.

All this was only found out in 1930 by an American university librarian who studied some of the toys and hand - written little books found in the house where the Brontё family had lived.

Bonds

Bond markets are important components of capital markets.

Bonds are

fixed - income securities - securities that promise the holder a specified set of

payments.

The value of a bond (like the value of any other asset) is the

present value of the income stream one expects to receive from holding

the bond.

This has several implications :

1.

Bond prices vary inversely with market interest rates.

Since the

stream of payments usually is fixed no matter what subsequently happens

to interest rates, higher rates reduce the present value of the expected

payments, and thus the price.

2. Bonds are generally adversely affected by inflation.

The reason is

that higher expected inflation raises market interest rates and therefore

reduces the present value of the stream of fixed payments.

Some bonds

(ones issued by the Israeli government, for example) are indexed for inflation.

If, for example, inflation is 10 percent per year, then the income from

the bond rises to compensate for this inflation.

With perfect indexation the

change in expected payments due to inflation exactly offsets the inflationcaused

change in market interest rates, so that the current price of the bond

is unaffected.

3. The greater the uncertainty about whether the payment will be

made (the risk that the issuer will default on the promised payments), the

lower the "expected" payment to bondholders and the lower the value of

the bond.

4. Bonds whose payments are subjected to lower taxation provide investors

with higher expected after - tax payments.

Since investors are interested

in after - tax income, such bonds sell for higher prices.

The major classes of bond issuers are the U.

S. government, corporations,

and municipal governments.

The default risk and tax status differ

from one kind of bond to another.

William Shakespeare is one of the most famous writers of all.

For hundreds of years his plays have been running in theatres all over the world in just about every language there is.

Shakespeare's plays were fantastically popular in his own time and they still are today.

The great author was born in 1564 on 23 April to John and Mary Shakespeare.

John Shakespeare was a glove maker and the family was quite comfortable.

They lived in Stratford - upon - Avon, a small but busy town in central England.

John Shakespeare sent his son William to school.

When the boy left it at the age of about 14, he had to work in the family business.

William Shakespeare didn't go to university and never received a university education.

He married early, at the age of 18.

He and his wife Anne had three children, two girls and a boy.

Sadly, the boy died when he was just 11.

Then suddenly Shakespeare left Stratford for London.

We don't know for sure why he did it.

A lot of people believe that he was thrilled by the idea of becoming an actor.

In those days theatre was a very popular and not expensive form of entertainment in the country.

People watched all kinds of plays which traveling theatre groups performed in the streets and squares.

The performances were rather primitive there was no scenery, no music, no special effects.

Probably Shakespeare joined one of such groups when he decided to devote his life to acting.

The city of London was noise, dangerous and possibly very dirty in those days.

There were several theaters, or playhouse.

One of them, the Theatre, was popular with Queen Elizabeth I herself.

Here Shakespeare began his acting career and later started to write plays.

In those days the tastes of the audiences were very different from what we like now.

Theatergoers enjoyed it when they saw cruel scenes or when there was blood all over the stage (they used sheep blood to produce the effect).

Tragedies in which the central characters died at the end were especially popular with the public.
