THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE

At 2 pm on 5 December 1945, five US bombers took off from Fort Lauderlale in the USA

for a training flight in perfect weather.

Shortly afterwards, the pilots radioed that their flight

instruments were all malfunctioning.

Two hours after take - off, all contact with the planes was lost.

A reconnaissance plane was immediately dispatched to search for the missing planes.

Within 20

minutes, radio contact with it had also been lost.

No trace of any of the planes was ever found.

In

all, six planes and 27 men had vanished into the air.

The disappearance of the six planes was far from being the first mysterious incident in the

area : for years, navigational problems and strange magnetic forces had been reported.

The

disappearance was not even the greatest disaster within the triangle.

The Cyclops, a 19, 000 - ton US

ship was sailing from Barbados to Norfolk, Virginia.

In March 1918, when it vanished with its crew

of 309 from the surface of he ocean without making a distress call and without the slightest

wreckage ever being found.

The losses of boats and planes in that area defy explanation.

The disasters are the origin of a

new phrase in the English language – the Bermuda Triangle and this phrase has entered legend.

The

Bermuda Triangle has been called the 'Devils’ Triangle, the Triangle of Death, the Graveyard of the

Atlantic.

It has swallowed up 140 ships and planes and more than 1, 000 people.

Today many

airmen and sailors are still afraid of that area of the Atlantic Ocean.

Бедствия - происхождение a

After the time of the Romans, the speed of discovery slowed down, and indeed many earlier discoveries were lost for hundreds of years.

It was not until the fifteenth century, with the coming of the Renaissance, that discoveries were again made on a large scale.

Europe was suddenly filled with a wish to explore the world.

No less important was the invention of printing, giving many men an opportunity to read and to own books which before had been available to only the wealthy few.

The spread of ideas was rapid, and led in its turn to the writing of more books.

The voyagers of the Renaissance discovered the existence of many new and strange lands, and in these lands were all sorts of unknown animals and plants.

People have always been exploring the world?

People have always been exploring the world.

After many successful space flights, the Earth seems to be known completely.

But still some parts of it are full of mystery.

In the western Atlantic Ocean, there is a very strange place.

Lots of ships, boats and even planes have disappeared in this area.

That part of the ocean is called the Bermuda Triangle.

People have been puzzled by it for years.

Scientists have suggested a lot of various explanations for the Bermuda Triangle.

They try to explain why that part of the world is so dangerous and unpredictable.

LONDON'S UNDERGROUND

It was the year 1863 and on one historic day 30, 000 Londoners used

a new and strange mode of travel — the first underground railway in the

world.

The first train covered the distance of almost four miles.

Some engineers had said before the railway was completed, that the

tunnels would fall in because of the weight of the traffic in the streets

above ; the houses would be shaken to the ground by the vibration of the

trains and Londoners would be poisoned by the fumes from the engine.

But the fantastic railway was completed and opened.

At first the carriages were "blind" and the trains were cable operated.

1 Then came "Twopenny Tube"2 which had small electric trains.

The

price of tickets was two pennies for any distance.

Now there are different trains going in many different directions.

There is the Old Tube across the centre with many and frequent stops

and there are trains going out to the suburbs and stopping at a very few

stations on the way.

And there are the non - express trains going a very

long way out into the country.

The fares are all different and even the

carriages are not alike.

Safety has always been one of the main concerns of London Transport.

In spite of the fact that trains often follow each other within seconds

it has been claimed that the London Tube is the safest form of

transport.

Automatic signalling worked by electric circuit is operated by

the trains themselves.

A programme machine controls routes : any

changes are made automatically with great speed.

Отметьте “True” “False” “Not stated” The Bermuda Triangle On December 5th, 1945 five US Navy planes took off from Fort Lauderdale In Florida.

There were 14 pilots on board.

Some time after the take off the control tower got a message from one of the planes.

“There’s something wrong.

The magnetic compass is going crazy.

We don’t know where we are.

” Soon the five planes disappeared.

Boats and planes went immediately to look for the lost planes but they were not successful.

There were neither crashed planes nor dead bodies.

The accident happened in the area called Bermuda Triangle.

It / s a large part of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Southern Florida Puerto Rico.

Many ships, planes and about 1, 000 people have disappeared in this area.

One of the explanations is that underwater earthquakes cause huge waves called tsunami.

They also produce very strong winds.

Both can destroy ships and planes.

Another theory says that there is a strange magnetic force in this area.

It can really break a ship into pieces.

Scientists also speak about the methane gas on the sea floor of the Bermuda Triangle.

When it comes out and mixes with the air, it’s so powerful that it can stop the ship / s or the plane’s engine.

It can also start a fire.

Than the explosion destroys the ship or the plane completely.

Some people believe that aliens carry away people together with the machines.

Whatever the truth is there is no clear answer.

After that she sat and prepared for the lesson, and talked with her friends.

After the second call teacher began a lesson.

At the lesson of the English language we translated the texts, and learned new words.

Then we had a lesson and we went to the Russian language where the dictation was written.

Then, according to the schedule, we had the algebra on which we solved examples and equations.

In each lesson I was distracted and I was wondering what the weather was like on the street.

Finally, the lessons were over.

And I had to go to practice.

Finally, the training ended and I went home with a smile.
