Переведите только не через комьютер

More than two hundred and 60 years have passed since the great Scottish poet Robert Burns was born.

In Russia, Burns is one of the most popular foreign poets.

He has been published 39 times in an edition of 2, 666, 000 copies.

“Robert Burns, ” wrote Alexander Tvardovsky, “is an amazing and rare phenomenon of European poetry”.

"

The first translation and reports about Burns appeared in Russian journals at the turn of the 19th century.

Belinsky reckoned Burns among the great poets of Europe whose works “comprise the greatest fund of lyrical poetry”.

The Scottish bard was greatly revered by Shevchenko, Nekrasov and Turgenev.

Burns was first discovered in Russia by M.

Mikhalkov, a comrade - in - arms of Chernyshevsky, who made the poet’s work a fact of Russian fiction.

Eduard Bagritsky, Tatyana Shchepkina - Kupernik and others fruitfully worked on translating Burns.

Samuil Marshak managed to bring the work of the Scottish poet within the reach of millions of readers.

A man of great poetical culture with a perfect command of English and Scottish folk literature, Marshak, according to Tvardovsky’s apt expression, “made Burns a Russian, leaving him a Scott”.

Sviridov, Shostakovich, Myaskovsky, Khrennikov, Alexandrov, Levitin and other musicians composed music after the works of the great Scottish poet.

Particularly interesting is Georgi Svridov’s cycle of nine songs.

Each of them has its own original dramatic composition.

Burns read his verses, as contemporaries said, “simply and with energy”.

Sviridov’s music also sounds just as “simple and with energy”.

Scots know that the verses of their poet are loved in Russia.

That is why the All - Scotland Federation of Burns Clubs, having decided to observe the poet’s birthday in various capitals of the world, chose Moscow, the capital of Russia, as the venture for holding the first Burns Day.
