What are English Roses?
Here is what they are not : A box of chocolates.
A football team(ti : m).
Flowers in the garden.
What they are is this : Four little girls whose names are : Nicole, Ami, Charlotte and Grace.
The girls went to the same (seim) scool and lived in the same town.
They played the same games, read the same books and liked the same boys.
They had picnics in summer and went to the skating rink in winter.
Most of all they loved to dance.
It all sounds(saundz) fun and nice.
And in many ways it was.
But there was one problem.
They were a little jealous of a girlwho was their neighbour.
Her name was Binah?
And here are some things to know about her : she was very, very beatiful.
SHE WAS A VERY GOOD PUPIL AND A GOOD ATHLETE.
She was always kind to people.
She was wonderful in any way.
But she was sad.

Because she was very lonely.
She had no friends and she was always alone.

Jenny was so excited.
She looked forward to her winter holiday in the Swiss Alps all year and now she was finally there.
There were lost of interesting people in her group and the leaders seemed very professional and experienced.
Jenny couldn't believe her luck.
She was away from the city at last.
Everyone was amazed by the scenery on their first walk.
The snow - capped moutains looked beautiful against the clear blue sky and the air was so fresh.
There were colorful wild flowers everywhere.
Jenny stopped to take some photographs.
But, when she looked around she realised that everyone else had gone and she was completely alone!
Some time later jenny was walking along the track, when suddenly she saw that it divided into two paths and didn't really know which one to take.
She decided to follow the path on the right.
After a while there was a noise and the ground sank.
She screamed as she felt herself falling over the edge of the mountain, but managed to grab some bushes oh her way down.
She shouted as loud as she could, but no one came.
Then, just as she was losing, she felt two strong hands pull her to safety.
Thankfully, the group leaders quickly realised she was missing and went back for her.
Jenny was so relieved that they found her just in time!

In the summer, her roses were always the best in the street.
One summer afternoon the bell rang, and when she went to the front door, she saw a small boy outside.
He was about seven years old, and was holding a big bunch of beautiful roses in his hand.
He said he was selling roses and asked Mrs.
Williams if she wanted some.
The boy added that they were quite cheap : five pence for a big bunch and that they were fresh, as he had picked them that afternoon.
Mrs. Williams told the boy that she picked roses whenever she wanted and she didn't pay anything for them, because she had lots in her garden.
The small boy said that she was mistaken, as there weren't any roses in her garden ; they were here in his hand!

And then Humpty - Dumpty said : "Who wants to dance with me?
" You know that my little sister was very naugh¬ty, don't you?

She ran to Humpty - Dumpty and said : "I want to dance with you.
" Everybody laughed.
Humpty - Dumpty laughed, too.
The other children ran to him, too, and they all began to dance.
"Now, children, " he said, "go to your seats.
" All the children went to their seats, but my little sister did not go to her seat.
Do you know why she did not go to her seat?
She ran away.
Yes, she ran away.
She wanted to see the dolls behind the curtain.
She found the dolls.
The beautiful dolls talked to my sister, and they gave her an ice.
Humpty - Dumpty found my little sister and took her to our mother.
Everybody laughed, but my mother was very angry.

She jumped up on her seat and cried : "I saw them.

All the birds and animals were tired of the hotsun and were all sleeping.
However, asmall brown monkey couldn't sleepbecause she was very thirsty indeed.
She looked for some water to drink, butcouldn't find it anywhere as it had been avery hot and dry summer.
At last, themonkey saw a big pot.
Was there water init?
She couldn't see any water, but then, itwas very dark in there.
The monkey puther hand into the pot and her long fingersfelt cold water.
What should she do?
Imagine, the water was so near and yet sohard to reach.
The small brown monkey sat down on thestone near the pot and felt thirstier thanever.
She knew that was thehippopotamus's pond nearby.
However, she knew that the water in it was verydirty, but then, she was very thirsty.
Shedecided to go to the pond and when shegot there, she discovered that she couldn'tdrink the water.
It was very dirty.
- I can't drink that.
- she said as she satdown on the bank of the pond crying.
Now the hippopotamus was in the middleof the pond, she saw the monkey andheard her crying.
She heard the monkey'swords and understood that she didn't likeher beautiful water.
She couldn't believeher ears and thought - she didn't like thisproud monkey.
Nevertheless, thehippopotamus had a kind heart and whenshe saw that the monkey was crying, sheswam to the bank and said - There, there.
