Stratford is a small country town in a farming district near the centre of England.

The Avon, which is a pretty river with grass and trees all along its banks, runs through Stratford.

Not much is known of Shakespeare's father.

He was a farmer who, at different times of his life, sold meat and bought and sold wool.

He was poor and was often in money difficulties.

Very little is known about the life of his only son William also.

The little house in which the great writer was born still stands.

It is now a museum.

In 1586 he went to London.

Probably the first work he did there was at one of the two theatres that there were in London at that time.

Shakespeare bought the largest house in his home town in 1597, but he did not spend much time there till 1610.

He spent the last years of his life in it.

)))))) The Great Bard William Shakespeare is one of the most famous writers of all.

For hundreds of years his plays have been running in theatres all over the world in just about every language there is.

Shakespeare's plays were fantastically popular in his own time and they still are today.

The great author was born in 1564 on 23 April to John and Mary Shakespeare.

John Shakespeare was a glove maker and the family was quite comfortable.

They lived in Stratford - upon - Avon, a small but busy town in central England.

John Shakespeare sent his son William to school.

When the boy left it at the age of about 14, he had to work in the family business.

William Shakespeare didn't go to university and never received a university education.

He married early, at the age of 18.

He and his wife Anne had three children, two girls and a boy.

Sadly, the boy died when he was just 11.

Then suddenly Shakespeare left Stratford for London.

We don't know for sure why he did it.

A lot of people believe that he was thrilled by the idea of becoming an actor.

In those days theatre was a very popular and not expensive form of entertainment in the country.

People watched all kinds of plays which traveling theatre groups performed in the streets and squares.

The performances were rather primitive there was no scenery, no music, no special effects.

Probably Shakespeare joined one of such groups when he decided to devote his life to acting.

The city of London was noise, dangerous and possibly very dirty in those days.

There were several theaters, or playhouse.

One of them, the Theatre, was popular with Queen Elizabeth I herself.

Here Shakespeare began his acting career and later started to write plays.

In those days the tastes of the audiences were very different from what we like now.

Theatergoers enjoyed it when they saw cruel scenes or when there was blood all over the stage (they used sheep blood to produce the effect).

Tragedies in which the central characters died at the end were especially popular with the public.

William Shakespeare was born in April 1564.

His father was a rich citizen whose business was making and selling leather gloves.

His mother was the daughter of an important farmer.

When he was nineteen, William married Anne.

She was a farmer's daughter and she was some years older than himself.

During that years he may have helped his father in the f amilybusiness or he may have been a country schoolmaster for a time, we don't know exactly.

Shakespeare had three children : Susannah, the eldest, then twins - a son, Hamnet, and another girl, Judith.

In 1587 Shakespeare went to work in London, leaving Anne and the children at home.

Some years later Shakespeare began to write plays.

The parents did not even guess that their son would be such an important figure in English poetry and drama and that his plays would still be acted Гош hundred years later in England and all over the world.

By 1592 Shakespeare was an important member of well - known company.

In 1599 the famous Globe Theatre was built on the south bank of the river Thames.

In that theatre most of his plays were performed.

It was a round building with the stage in the center, open to the sky.

William Shakespeare, the greatest and the most famous of English writers, and probably the greatest playwright who has ever lived, was born in Stratford - on - Avon?

William Shakespeare, the greatest and the most famous of English writers, and probably the greatest playwright who has ever lived, was born in Stratford - on - Avon.

We know very little about his life.

The things that we know about Shakespeare's life begin with the date when he was baptized in the church of Stratford, on April 26, 1564, when he was only a few days old.

So he has believed to have been born on April 23.

Though little is known about William's childhood, there is every reason to believe that he was educated at the local Grammar School.

When little over eighteen he married Anne Halthaway of Shottery.

William lived in Stratford until he was about twenty - one, when he went to London.

We do not know why he left Stratford - on - Avon.

There is a story that Shakespeare's first job in London was holding rich men's horses at the theatre door.

But nobody can be sure that this story is true.

Later, Shakespeare became an actor and a member of one of the chief acting companies.

Soon he began to write plays for this company and in a few years became a well - known author.

Shakespeare's experience as an actor (although he usually acted only small parts, like the Ghost in Hamlet) helped him greatly in the writing of his plays.

His knowledge of the age and his poetical genius made his plays the most wonderful ones ever written.

Shakespeare’s wrote 37 plays.

Among them there are deep tragedies, such as «Hamlet», «King Lear» and «Othello».

Macbeth, light comedies, such as «All’s well that Ends well», «Twelfth Night», historical dramas, such as «Henry 4», «Richard 3».

Most of Shakespeare's plays were not published in his lifetime.

So some of them may have been lost in the five when the «Globe» burned down in 1613.

Shakespeare’s spent the last years of his life at Stratford, where he died in 1616.

He was buried in the church of Stratford.

A monument was erected to the memory of the great playwright in the Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey.

William Shakespeare, the greatest English poet and dramatist, was born on April 23, 1564 in stratford - (up)on - Avon, Warwickshire, in England.

He was the eldest son and the third child in the marriage.

We know very little about the life of William, especially about his early years.

At the age of seven the parents sent William to Stratford School where he studied for six years.

In 1577 William's father, John Shakespeare fell into debt and sold the larger part of his property.

He took William from school and for some time the boy helped his father in the trade.

Nobody knows what he did between his fourteenth and eighteenth year.

We know nothing about these five years of his life.

When still at Stratford William became well acquainted with theatrical performances because traveling companies of players often visited Stratford.

Probably, Shakespeare also saw miracle plays in the neighbouring town of Coventry.

In 1582, when little more that eighteen, William married Anne Hathaway, a daughter of Richard Hathaway who belonged to a well - respected yeoman family.

Ann was eight years older than her husband and the marriage was not a happy one.

In 1583 their daughter Susanna was born and in 1585 their twins named Hamnet and Judith were born.

When William was about twenty - one, he left for London where he had many difficulties .

There is a story that when Shakespeare reached London he went straight to the theatre to get some work there.

He began by holding the horses of the fine gentleman who came to see the plays.

Later he called out the names of the actors and after a time he received a small part to act.

But soon he tried to change old plays and he made them into something different and better.

Then he started to write plays himself.

Shakespeare is the author of 37 plays, poems and 154 sonnets.
