An Old Man and Two Actors Two young actors could not find work for a very long time.
At last they were given small parts in a London theatre.
It made them very happy and they were glad when they were given some money for their work.
So the first thing they decided to do was to have a good dinner at a restaurant.
On the way to the restaurant they sat down on a bench in the park.
An old man was sitting at the other side of the bench.
His eyes were sad and he looked ill.
Suddenly he fell off the bench.
The young actors helped him to sit on the bench.
Some time later the old man said, “I haven’t eaten for three days.
Three days ago I lost all the money I had, ” and he began to cry.
“Please don’t cry.
We haven’t got much money but we are glad to give you some money, ” said one of the friends and he gave the old man a pound.
The other actor did the same.
The old man stopped crying.
“Oh, thank you.
You are very good young men.
Good - bye and be happy.
” Then he walked away very quickly.
“He doesn’t look ill any more.
Do you think his story is true?
” asked one of the friends.
“True or not true, we had to help him.
If he was poor and hungry he needed the money, and if he was a very good actor he had to be paid for playing the part so well.
” “Yes, you’re right.
I’m glad we gave him the two pounds.
” “Well, what about dinner now?
” “Oh, we’ll have something to eat at home.
And think how happy we are.
We’ve got our parts and we’ve been able to help an old man.

So, he said to them : “I’ve never told a lie in my life!
” When the boys heard these words they shouted : “You’ve won!

There was a packet of crisps on the bench between her and the old man.

She looked at the strange man but he was calm.
Alice didn't say anything and started reading again.
Every time Alice took some crisps from the packet, the old man took some crisps too.
Soon there were only a few crisps leftvin the packet.
The girl looked at the strange old man.
Ne took the last two uneaten crisps and gave one to Alice.
The girl was surprised.
She put the unfinished book into ger bag and left as fast as possible.
She came home and took the book out of her bag.
And suddenly she saw her unopened packet of crisps in the bag.
