There are many customs and traditions in England.
And I would like to tell you some of them.
First tradition is called "Wrong side of the bed".
When people are bad tempered we say that they must have got out of bed on the wrong side.
Originally, it was meant quiet literally.
People belive that the way they rose in the morning affected their behavior throughout the day.
The wrong side of the bed was the left side.
The left always having been linked with evil.
Second custom is called "Blowing out the candles" The custom of having candles on birthday cakes goes back to the ancient Greeks.
Worshippers of Artemis, godess of the moon and hunting, used to place honey cakes on the altars of her temples on her birthday.
The cakes were round like the full moon and lit with tapers.
This custom was next recorded in the middle ages when German peasants lit tapers on birthday cakes, the number lit indicating the person's age, plus an extra one to represent the light of life.
From earliest days burning tapers had been endoued with mystical significance and it was belived that when blown out they had the power to grant a secret wish and ensure a happy year ahead.

They are a long way from their camp now.
They are going to find the orchid and they will go to Eagle Rock.

Naturally, the other people went out to see if the horse would eat the oysters.
A few minutes later the waiter returned with the news that the horse had refused to eat
the oysters.
When the other people returned they saw that the traveller was sitting
comfortably in a chair.
He was warming his feet beside the fire.
And suddenly
everybody realized why the traveller had ordered the waiter to take the oysters to the
horse.

For two days the Titanic went on its way over the sea.
Them it entered an ice field and big iceberg hit it.

Men were putting the life boats over the sides of the ship down into the water.
Then all the men helped the women and children get into the life boats.
There wasn't very much time left.
The iceberg was on one side of the ship.
It was like a high white wall.
A woman came to the side of the schip.
Her two children were in one of the life boats and she was very much afraid.
''My children are on the life boat.
I must go with them, ''the woman called to the people in the life boat.
''There's no more room, ''someone called out.
''If we take one more the life boat will sink.
''There was a young woman in the life boat called Miss Evans.
When she heard the woman calling, she stood up on the life boat and touched one of the men on the arm.
''Let me get back on the ship, '' she said.
''Let that woman take my place.
I have no children.
''The ship is sinking, ''said the man.
''You know that?
'' ''Yes, '' said Miss Evans.

'' There was no time to talk.
People helped Miss Evans get back onto the ship.
Very soon after that there was a great noise and the Titanic wend down under the water .

Then the party begins !
At the party there is always lots of food and drink .
There are usually a lot of balloons in the room where the party is .
The children wear party hats and play party games .
After that it's time for the birthday cake !
The BIRTHDAY BOY or Girl blows out the candles and makes a birthday wish !
Then everyone sings "Happy Birthday'' .
Birthday parties are great fun for everyone !

For seven long weeks the Mayflower was in the waves and storms of the Atlantic Ocean, and at last the people saw land.
It was America.
It was already autumn.
It was raining and a cold wind was blowing.
Sixteen men left the Mayflower and went ashore.
In the evening they came back to the ship and brought some maize with them.
They found the maize in the sand on the beach where the Indians had left it.
Nobody in Europe had seen maize then, but when the people on board the Mayflower tried it they liked it very much.
Next day was Sunday and everybody on the Mayflower had a rest.
On Monday some men went ashore again and this time they took some women with them.
The women had to wash the clothes.
Since that time Monday has been a wash - day in America.
