Martin's vacation Martin had a terrible day yesterday.
It was the day of his vacation to Spain, but it was a nightmare.
He left the house at 10 o'clock in the morning and caught a taxi to the airport.
Martin went to the check - in with his luggage.
When the man who worked for the airline asked for his passport, Martin became very upset.
Where was his passport?
Martin realized he didn't have his passport with him.
What a disaster!
He jumped back into the taxi and told the driver to take him home.
The driver drove quickly, and Martin arrived back at his house in twenty minutes.
He ráh into the house and went into his bedroom.
He found his passport on the bedside table and left the house again.
But the taxi wasn't there!
Where was the taxi!
Martin jumped up and down angrily.
“I don't believe it.
The taxi left!
” he shouted.
He ran down the street and looked for another taxi.
After a few minutes, Martin found another taxi and told the driver to take him to the airport as quickly as possible.
The traffic on the roads was very bad and, unfortunately, Martin's taxi arrived at the airport late.
His plane left for Spain at 11.
30 and Martin, missed it.
He was very sad and went to speak to the airline.
They promised to get him a seat on an evening flight and Martin went home on another taxi to wait.

The ship came to the island in the evening of a September day in 1871.
Next morning the captain said to Maclay :
“You are coming ashore.
Why don’t you take more men with you?
Have you a gun?

“I don’t need a gun.
I have presents for the natives.
”
The island was beautiful.
There were trees and flowers everywhere, and it was very hot.
The sun shone brightly high above Maclay’s head.
He walked for some time down a forest path.
Suddenly he stopped because he heard a noise.
A native stood in front of him.
He looked at Maclay quickly and then started running away.
Maclay ran after him.
The native looked back and suddenly stopped.
Maclay took out some presents and showed them to the man.
The native took the presents and smiled.
This was how Miklukho - Maclay met the first black man on the first day of his life in New Guinea.
The native’s name was Tui.
He was Maclay’s best friend all the time that the traveller lived on the island.
On the first of October Maclay started out for a walk in the forest.
He carried no gun.
He had only a notebook and a pencil.
In the forest, he met a native boy who saw him and ran away.
Maclay heard the voices of men and women and the cries of children.
Suddenly many men with spears in their hands came out.
They stopped and looked at Maclay angrily.
When he tried to say something, one of the men wanted to throw his spear at him.
Maclay did not know a word of their language.
He could not explain that he was their friend.
He knew that he had to do something quickly.
And a good idea came to him.
He suddenly sat down on the ground and began to take off his shoes.
Then he lay down, put a bag under his head and .

The natives did nothing to him.

The sailor and the monkeys
A ship stopped at the coast of South Africa.
One of the sailors left the ship and went to a town near the coast.
He had some blue caps made of wool in a bag and wanted to sell them in the town.
The sun was hot and the sailor decided to have a rest in the forest.
He sat down under a big tree, took one of the caps out of his bag and put it on his head.
He slept for some time.
When the man woke up, he took his cap off and wanted to put it into his bag with the other caps.
But he saw that there were no caps in it now.
Where were they?
"Where are my caps?
" he cried.
Then the sailor heard a great noise in the trees above his head.
He looked up and saw monkeys, and each monkey had a blue cap on its head!
"Give me back my caps, you monkeys!
" he cried.
But the monkeys didn't listen to him.
They only jumped from tree to tree and made a great noise.
"Give me back my caps!
" he cried again and again.
But nothing helped.
The monkeys only looked at him.
Then the sailor was very angry.
He took off the blue cap, threw it on the ground and cried, "You have taken all my caps!
You can have this cap too!
" The monkeys saw him do that.
Then each monkey took off the cap and threw it on the ground.
The sailor picked up his caps, put them into his bag and went to town.

This soon woke the Lion, who placed his huge paw on the Mouse and opened his big jaws ready to swallow him.

They put a little oil on his mouth so that he could speak.
He was sad because he didn’t have a heart.
Dorothy told him about the wonderful wizard who could give him a heart.
The tin man joined them, and they continued down the yellow brick road.
Next, they met a huge lion.
He was curled up in a little ball, he was very afraid.
A mouse had bitten his tail.
He was very cowardly, but Dorothy calmed him.

However, he told Dorothy that he could not help her get home.
The power had been with her all along.
She only needed to wear the slippers and click her heels together three times to go anyplace she wanted.
It was time for Dorothy and Toto to return home.
She said goodbye to everyone and clicked her shoes together.
In the blink of an eye, she was back with her aunt and uncle in Kansas.
Dorothy was happy to be home, but she would never forget her new friends.

Magellan didn't have GPS and only used maps and the stars to find his way.
He is famous for being the first man from Europe to cross the Pacific Ocean.
