Московский зоопарк - один из крупнейших и старейших зоопарков в России.

Он появился в Москве в 1864 году и тогда имел 286 животных.

Сейчас в его богатой коллекции насчитывается более 6 000 различных животных : слонов и жирафов, белых медведей и бурых медведей, белок и лисиц, оленей и волков, львов и тигров.

Сначала здания зоопарка были деревянными.

Теперь животные живут в каменных зданиях, когда на улице холодно.

Московский зоопарк расположен в центре города.

Spotlight on Russia visits the Moscow Zoo.

Tigers, monkeys, emus and fish in the very centre of the Russian capital!

These creatures all live in the Moscow Zoo, one of the largest in the world!

Moscow Zoo covers an area of 20 hectares which is home to over 7000 different species.

The zoo has also got many exotic animals and birds.

Getting around the Zoo is easy but get a map to make sure you see everything.

First, visit the Animal Island.

There you can see the Amur tigers, the white snow leopard, the Himalaya bears, the Asian lions and even an Australian emu, which is almost two metres tall!

It is on the second floor of‘Animal Island’ and it is full of colourful fish in large aquariums.

Don’t miss the Night World exhibition too.

This is a great chance for you to see the night animals since they sleep during the day!

For all young visitors, the Children’s Zoo is a must!

Children can see the heroes of their favourite fairy tales : the three piglets, the wolf and seven young goats and many other animals well known to all the kids.

Kids of all ages can also visit playgrounds and buy gifts from the souvenir shops.

There are also cafes and picnic areas.

All of these things make visiting the zoo a perfect day out!

The Animal World of Russia

Russia is large and rich not only¹ in its territories — moun¬tains, seas, rivers and forests.

The plant and animal worlds of our country are very rich too.

We’ve got lots of different animals and birds, trees and flowers.

You can find wolves and bears, foxes and hares, squirrels and hedgehogs in our forests.

Large and powerful elks live there too.

Reindeer live in the north of Russia, tigers in the Far East.

All Russian people know the names of these animals.

You can

meet them in Russian fairy tales too.

Strong bears, clever

hares, sly² foxes are favourite heroes³ of tales and fables.
