In - это внутри (в) , то есть 'дупло внутри дерева' или 'дупло в дереве'

on - это на, то есть 'птица сидит на дереве'

In the tree - на дереве, у англичан, крона дерева - это, как, если говорить о помещении, но перевод предлога IN на русский будет звучать, как НА, в этом случае.
Потому что на русском языке не скажешь в дереве))
On the tree - предлог ON сам по себе означает на плоскости, также он переводится ПО (по какой либо поверхности), тем самым, значит на самой вышине, прям в английском смысле - на дереве.
В моём понимании так.
