TRAVELLING
Travelling became a part of our life.
Thousands of
people travel every day either on business or for pleasure.
They travel by road, by train, by air or by sea.
Of course, travelling by air is the fastes t and the
most convenient way, but it is the most expensive, too.
Travelling by train is slower than travelling by plane,
but it is less expensive.
You can see many interesting
places of the country through the window.
Modern trains
have more comfortable seats.
There are also sleeping
car s and dining cars that make even the longest journey
more pleasant.
Speed, comfort and safety are the main
advantages of trains and planes.
That is why many people
prefer them to all other kinds of travelling.
Travelling by sea is popular mostly for pleasure trips.
Tourists can make voyages - on large ships to foreign countries.
The trips on the Volga, the Don and the Black Sea
are very popular today.
As for me I prefer travelling by car.
I think it's more
convenient because you don't buy tickets, you can stop any
place and spend as much time as you like at any place.

I certainly don, t hate the countryside, but I prefer it for holidays.

It's always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.
Those who live in the country like to go to a big city and spend their time visiting museums and art galleries, looking at shop windows and dining at exotic restaurants.
City - dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains, with nothing to do but walk and bathe and laze in the sun.
Most travellers and holiday - makers take a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interests them — the sights of a city, old churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, plains, waterfalls, forests ; different kinds of trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds.
Later, perhaps years later, they will be reminded by the photos of the happy time they have had.
People travel by train, by plane, by boat and by car.
All means of travel have their advantages and disadvantages.
And people choose one according to their plans and destinations.
If we are fond of travelling, we see and learn a lot of things that we can never see or learn at home, though we may read about them in books and newspapers, and see pictures of them on TV.
The best way to study geography is to travel, and the best way to get to know and understand people is to meet them in their own homes.

If you are short of time, you may take a taxi.
You must check in your luggage and after the procedure of registration you board the plane.
Now you can hear the engines start their work.
The plane is taking off.
It gains speed very quickly and in a few minutes you are already above the clouds.
The land below looks like a small geographical map.
After the plane has gained its regular height, the stewardess brings passengers some mineral water, sometimes tea and sandwiches.
The seats on board the plane are comfortable, and you can sit in a cozy armchair and read a book, magazine or a newspaper, look through the window to see the passing clouds change their colour from white to black.
You may just as well have a sleep until you arrive at your airport.
While you are sitting in the armchair you must fasten the seat belts.
You may also lower the back of the seat and feel yourself comfortable, “as snug as a bug in” a rug”, as the saying goes.
In front of you there is a cockpit where a pilot and a mechanic sit.
They both and a stewardess are the crew of the plane.
If you are travelling by plane, there is one thing you’ve got to bear in mind.
Some people can’t stand flying and they get airsick, in this case they have to take a pill for airsickness, and in some time they will feel much better.
The stewardess will help them with their problems.
Soon the plane will land and arrive at its destination exactly on time.

The Internet helps us in different ways.
We can read lots of interesting things (encyclopedias, poems or even books), we can send letters or even, what is very popular recently, we can do shopping without leaving our houses.
As internet shopping is so popular nowadays we need to be aware of its advantages and disadvantages.
Many people fear internet shopping because of its disadvantages.
They claim that the worst things is that there is no guarantee of receiving the desired product.
The sellet can simply mail a pig in a poke and then the money is lost.
They are right because that kind of things happen very often and we can't do anything about it.
So people sould buy only from a reliable source.
Another things is that we have to pay for the delivery and it can be a really big price when the parcel is heavy or comes from overseas.
And what when the product is just not the thing we ordered?
We have to send it back to the seller and pay for another post delivery.
And what about our health?
People don't go shopping, don't walk but just sit in front of the screen.
It affects not only our body but our eyes too.
THe effect is simple : more people wear lasses and internet shops sell more clothes in XXL size.
Another disadvantage is that there is less employment for shop assistants, security men, etc.
Maybe it isn't very visible now but it will be in the futere.
Still in spite of the disadvantages internet shopping becomes more and more popular, people are interested in buying by means of virtual shops.
People can find the desired product much faster than in the shops.
Another fine thing about internet shopping is that there is an enormous choice.
Furthermore the products in the internet are cheaper than in the shops.
But going shopping with yopur family ofr friends is much more fun than sitting in front of the screen.
