The Attack That Change His Life Paul Templer was always an adventurer and wildlife enthusiast.
He spent years travelling the world.
He started his own business and worked as a river guide in Zimbabwe, giving river tours on canoes.
During one ordinary tour, his life was changed drastically.
He was guiding the tourists down the Zambezi River.
All of a sudden, a hippo attacked one of the canoes, throwing another guide into the water.
Paul rushed to help the guide, but the hippo went after him.
The hippo pulled him underwater, but Paul managed to break himself free and swim to the surface.
But the hippo wasn’t about to give up that easily.
The animal attacked Paul several more times, biting into his foot and arm, breaking his ribs, with its gigantic teeth.
The hippo then left him for dead.
Paul’s wounds were so massive, the operation needed to save his life took 7 hours.
His left arm was amputated.
The doctors said it was a miracle he survived.
After the operation, he had to go through 2 years of rehabilitation and therapy.
He found the strength to move on with his life and live it to the fullest.
He returned to the Zambezi River and, led a three - month expedition which made him famous.

On a farm
Bob is a little boy.
He is seven.
He lives in a town.
His uncle Mr.
Smith lives in the country.
He has got a big farm.
Mr. Smith invited Bob to spend his summer holidays with him on the farm.
For the first time in his life Bob saw so many domestic animals : horses, cows, sheep, pigs, ducks, hens, chickens and some others.
He wanted to see everything.
Bob's uncle had a lot of work to do on his farm.
He usually got up at five o'clock in the morning.
Bob wanted to help his uncle in his work.
One day Mr.
Smith asked Bob to take care of a little calf.
Bob was happy.
The calf was so nice, it was very little and funny.
It had long legs.
Its eyes were big and brown.
They were so beautiful!
Bob gave the calf some milk to drink and some bread and other things to eat.
He took him for a walk in the morning and in the afternoon.
Bob took good care of the calf and the calf grew very quickly.
Bob liked his calf very much and the calf liked him too.
He always went with Bob wherever Bob went.
Soon they became very good friends.
Bob learned to take care of the other animals on the farm too.
When it was time to go back to town, Bob was very sorry.
He went with his uncle to see all the animals and to say good - bye to them.
He was sure that the animals were sorry too and that they said good - bye to him in their animal language.

The rain had been falling ON EVERYTHING and soon the dishes were clean again.
THE RAIN WASHED THEM!
Then the man carried everything back into the house again.
He put the dishes into the cupboard, the frying pan and the pots on the pot shelves, the ash trays on the tables, the flowerpots back where he found them, the vases where the vases go, the kettle on the gas cooker, and the soap dish in the bathroom.
He was so very t1red after he had been carrying everything back and putting it away that he decided : "I will better always wash my dishes just as soon as I have finished my dinner : The next night when he came home, he cooked his dinner, flmshed to eat it, then washed the dishes and put them right away.
He did this every night after that, too.
HE IS VERY HAPPY NOW.
He can find his chairs, and he can find his clock, and he can find his BED.
It is easy for him to get into his house, too, because there are no more dishes piled on the floor or anywhere!

He lived in a small house, together with his three sons.
The miller worked at the mill, and his sons helped him.
The miller had no horse.
He used his donkey to bring wheat from the fields.

The miller grew old and died.
His sons decided to divide their father's things among themselves.
That was easy : he had almost nothing to leave to his sons.
Only his mill, his donkey and his cat.
"I'm going to take the mill, " said the miller's oldest son.

I can eat the cat, and I can make a hat out of his fur.
But then I have nothing.
I can die of hunger.

The Cat was sitting on the bench too.
He was trying not to listen to his master.
But of course he heard all his words.
And he didn't like them at all.
He put on a serious face and said :
"Don't look so sad, Master.
I'm not a bad thing.
And I am more useful to you alive than dead.
I can prove that.

"How so?
" asked the Cat's master.
"All you have to do is to give me a bag, and get a pair of boots.
Such as gentlemen wear in the woods.
I'm going to show you thatyou're lucky to have me.

"It's unusual that a cat can speak at all, " the miller's son said to himself.
But then he started thinking.
"This cat's very good at catching rats and mice.
He played so many cunning tricks on them.
He never came home without a rat or a mouse.
He could hide in the wheat, or pretend to be dead.

The Smuggler and the Customs Officer.
The customs officer had seen the same man coming into the country every day for the past month.
He knew that this man must be smuggling something into the country, but he didn’t know what it was.
The man was always very polite.
He always took off his hat and said “Good afternoon”, to the customs officer.
The customs officer always asked him to open his bag, but the customs officer couldn’t find out what the man was smuggling into the country.
He couldn’t find any whisky or perfume or cigarettes or anything.
When the customs officer had looked through the man’s bag and couldn’t find anything, the man always took off his hat and said, “Thank you.
Goodbye!
” He was very polite, but the customs officer was sure the man was a smuggler.
After a month the customs officer was so unhappy that he left his job.
The next day he watched the smuggler come up to the new customs officer.
“Good afternoon!
” said the smuggler and took off his hat politely.
“Good afternoon!
” said the new customs officer.
“Would you open your bag, please.
” So the man opened his bag again, but the new customs officer couldn’t find anything either.
“Thank you.
Goodbye!
” said the man and took off his hat politely.
Outside customs the old customs officer, who had left his job, stopped him and said, “I’m not a customs officer anymore.
I left my job.
Would you please tell me what you’re smuggling?
I know you’re smuggling something.
” The old customs officer was almost crazy because he didn’t know what it was.
“It’s true”, said the man.
“I am smuggling something.

Ray Douglas Bradbury is one of the most famous modern science fiction writers.
He himself, however, prefers to call himself "the future - teller" or "the wizard".
R. Bradbury was born on August 20, 1920 in Greentown, U.
S. A.
His family was poor and he couldn't afford buying books.
Once at the age of 12 he wrote his own continuation of the book "The Martian Warrior" by E.
Barrouse.
Bradbury loves books and hates those who don't.
In 1951 he wrote one of the greatest novels, his famous "Fahrenheit 451" about a new, "sick" society with its cruel anti - human laws, which consists of immoral, souless and empty people, who burn great books, the spiritual treasures of mankind and supress individuals who want to save their human dignity.
But Ray Bradbury is an optimist and he finishes the novel with a ray of hope — the human beings will win in their struggle against immorality.
His other great works are about the people exploring space, new planets, about a nuclear war on the Earth, about Death and Life.
All his books make us think about our present and future, about our lives and the great planet Earth we live on.
