The first permanent theatre in England was established by James Burbage (an actor) and was called just The Theatre.

The Globe is the most famous theatre.

It was built by the sons of Burbage in 1599 on the southern shore of the Thames.

The Globe especially famous for William Shakespeare's plays that were produced there.

The Globe didn’t have a roof and it resembled the inn yard.

Ordinary poor people were standing in front of the stage while the rich enjoyed the performance from the galleries.

The scenery of the plays had rich decorations.

Most of the costumes were donated by rich patrons.

The clothes were always bright and luxurious.

Like in Ancient Greece, there were no women on the stage in the past in England.

Young male actors who were graceful and had a loud and clear voice played the parts of young women.

Old women were played by the comedians.

All actors had to know dancing, singing and stage fencing.

They also used a lot of improvisation.

Famous actors of that time were for example Edward Alleyn and Richard Burbage.

Between 1775 and 1783, the Bolshoy or Stone Theatre was erected by the design of Antonio Rinaldi.

For a long time the Bolshoy ranked with the best theatres of Europe and remained the largest theatre in Europe.

The theatre was rebuilt many times, burnt down and erected again from the ashes.

Operas, ballets and plays were staged at that theatre.

Its auditorium had three tiers and accommodated about 2000 spectators.

But it was rebuilt in the first decade of the 19th century by Jean - Francais Thomas de Thomon.

Then the St.

The first institution of higher musical education in Russia was founded in 1862 on the initiative of the composer Anton Rubinshtein.

Pyotr Tchaikovsky was one of the first graduates of the Conservatoire.

After the fire of 1859, the building was reconstructed according to the design of the architect Albert Kavos.

The appearance of the building, its main façade is a result of the reconstruction undertaken between 1894 and 1895 under the supervision of the architect Victor Schroter.

The new theatre was named the Mariinsky Theatre after Maria Alexandrovna, the wife of Alexander II.

The theatre was inaugurated on the 2nd of 20 October, 1860 with the opera ―Life for the Tsar‖ (―Ivan Susanin‖) by Mikhail Glinka.

The plane had taken off from the air - field in London, and the journey to South Africa, to Johannesburg to be exact, had started.

It was just after the war, and it was not a jet, as is the case nowadays, but it was a big plane with four engines, and four propellers, of course.

When a few minutes later we were crossing the Channel, one of the engines went wrong, but the stewardess left and the passengers were quite safe.

However, when the plane reached the Mediterranean Sea, the second engine broke down, but the stewardess told us there was nothing to worry about because two engines were quite enough to keep us in the air.

As we got near to the shores of Africa, the rumour spread that only one propeller was working.

The stewardess kept her mouth shut, this time, but we came to the conclusion the plane must have developed engine trouble and so it had.

Presently we were flying over the jungle in Central Africa and my fellow travellers were terribly upset.

Women were holding their children tighter and tighter and men were drinking more and more heavily… There was also a person there who was saying a prayer in a loud voice.

I too was terribly frustrated, and as I looked down at the bush, I could not help thinking of cannibalism, death and other pleasant things.

At that moment, the loud - speaker was switched on, and the captain's voice was heard : "Ladies and gentlemen, I have tragic news for you".

The faces of all the passengers turned pale.

Some burst into tears, and the prayer stifled in the parson's mouth.

My heart sank into my boots.

The captain continued in a gloomy voice : "It is my sad duty to inform you that England has lost her last football match against Scotland!

".
