William Shakespeare , the world's greatest playwright, was born in April, 1564.

He grew up in Stratford - upon - Avon in central England and attended Stratford Grammar School.

In 1582, when Shakespeare was 18 years old, he married a woman named Anne Hathaway and the couple had three children.

A few years after his marriage, Shakespeare moved to london where he worked as both a playwright and an actor.

In 1593, he joined "The Lord Chamberlain's Men", on of England's most famous acting and writing, until 1599.

It was in this year that the theatre where the group performed burnt down.

He continued to act in another theatre called "The Globe" until 1613, when he chose to retire.

Shakespeare went on writing plays up until his death in 1616.

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest novelists in the English literature.

In his books he showed a real world and people of Victorian England.

Charles Dickens was born in London in 1812.

His father was a clerk and had eight children.

His father always spent more money than he received.

When Charles was 10 years old his family was put into prison for his father's debts.

Charles had to give up the school and work.

He worked at the blacking factory ten hours a day.

Charles hated it and never forgot the experience.

He used it in many novels, especially in «David Copperfield» and «Oliver Twist».

At the age of 15 he was lucky to get a job in a London lawyer's office though he didn't like this job.

When he was 16 he started to work for a newspaper.

And by the age of 25 he became one of the best journalists in London.

«The Pickwick Papers» was his first great work which made him popular.

His books became very popular in many countries and he spent much time abroad.

In the last years of his life he began to meet with his readers and to give public readings from his books.

These meetings were very successful.

He never stopped writing and travelling and he died very suddenly in 1870.

He was a weak child and did not like to take part in noisy and active games.

The little boy was very clever and learnt to read at an early age.

He read a lot of books in his childhood.

When he was about six, someone took him to the theatre for the first time.

He saw a play by Shakespeare and liked it so much that he decided to write a play of his own.

When it was ready, he performed it with some of his friends.

Everybody enjoyed the performance, and the little writer felt very happy.

When Dickens was nine years old, the family moved to London where they lived in an old house in the suburbs.

They had a very hard life.

There were several younger children in the family besides Charles.

The future writer could not even go to school, because at that time his father was in the Marshalsea Debtor’s Prison.

There was nobody in London to whom Mr Dickens could go for money, and his wife with all the children except Charles went to join him in the prison.

The family lived there until Mr Dickens could pay his debts.

Those were the most unhappy days of all Charles’ life.

The boy worked from early morning till late at night to help his family.

Charles was only able to start going to school when he was nearly twelve, and his father was out of prison.

He very much wanted to study, but he did not finish his schooling.

After two years of school he began working again.

the time of the English Renaissance.

By that time England had become a powerful state.

English trade was flourishing.

New sciences were developing.

This

was “the age of Shakespeare”.

William Shakespeare, the greatest and most famous of

English writers, and probably the greatest playwright who has

ever lived, was born in the town Stratford - on - Avon.

In spite of his fame we know very little about his life.

We

even do not know the exact date of his birth.

It is considered

that he was born on April 23, 1564.

His father was a merchant,

and his mother was a farmer’s daughter.

William lived in Stratford until he was about twenty - one, when he went to London.

We do not know why he left Stratford - on - Avon.

Neither do we know what were his first jobs in London.

Later, Shakespeare became an actor and a member of one of

the chief acting companies.

Soon he began to write plays for

his company and in a few years became a well - known author.

Shakespeare wrote 37 plays.

Among them there are deep

tragedies, such as “Hamlet”, “King Lear”, “Othello”, “Macbeth” ; light comedies, such as “All’s Well that Ends Well”,

“Twelfth Night”, “Much Ado about Nothing”, historical dramas, such as “Henry IV”, “Richard III”.

Shakespeare spent the last days of his life at Stratford

There he met Mary Fitton, the only

Charles Dickens is a famous writer in the English language.

He wrote about the real world of England and many of the people in his books were not rich, but poor and hungry.

Charles Dickens’s family lived in London and his father worked in an office.

It was a good job, but he always spent a lot of money and often there was no money to buy food.
