1. He lived in the castle of his uncle, Lord Thorkill of Arden.

2. No, he didn't.

The only thing that reminded him of his past was a golden ring that he had found in the forest.

3. His uncle, Lord Thorkill of Arden thought that the Normans were very rich and one day they would introduce Elmer to their King William.

4. Elmer disliked (hated ) the Normans because they killed his parents in 1066.

5. The boys decided to go to the Island of Ely to join Hereward's camp who started a war against the Normans.

6. Hereward the Wake was the English leader who fought against King William.

7. The English camp was at the Island of Ely near the old monastery.

8. The Normans couldn't get to the English camp because they couldn't get through the fens.

9. The Normans built a big bridge which would carry them over the fens.

10. The Normans needed builders, so Hereward and his men dressed up as peasants and helped the Normans build their bridge.

11. The Normans decided to use a witch to scare and stop Englishmen.

It was a trap that the Normans organized.

12. Elmer felt something warm on his finger.

It was the ring .

He saw the Normans were coming but nobody saw them.

Elmer said to burn the bridge and the Norman army and their witch fell into the cold water of the fens.

13. Hereward, Elmer and Sigurd had to run away because the monks who were among them were tired of the war and led the Norman soldiers through the woods .

So they escaped to save their lives.

14. Elmer came back to his uncle and inherited his uncle's lands and money.

So he became one of the richest people in England and the only English landowner of Arden .

15. The ring brought a lot of lands and money to its owner and helped him to save his and his friend's lives.
