1 It was all joy with her now, as she sat motionless without speaking, while he administered to her wants and spoke words of love into her

ears.

She remembered the man's horrid threat, and knew that by

God's mercy she had been saved.

And he was there caressing her,

loving her, comforting her!

As she thought of the fate that had threatened her, of the evil that had been so imminent, she fell forward on her knees, and with incoherent sobs uttered her thanksgivings, while her head was still supported on his arms.

2 It was almost morning before she could induce herself to leave him

and lie down.

With him she seemed to be so perfectly safe ; but the moment he was away she could see Aaron Trow's eyes gleaming at her

across the room.

At last, however, she slept ; and when he saw that she was at rest, he told himself that his work must then begin.

Hitherto Caleb Morton had lived in all respects the life of a man of peace ; but now, asking himself no questions as to the propriety of what he would do, using no inward arguments as to this or that line of conduct, he girded the sword on his loins, and prepared himself

for war.

The wretch who had thus treated the woman whom he loved should be hunted down like a wild beast, as long as he had arms and

legs with which to carry on the hunt.

He would pursue the miscreant with any weapons that might come to his hands ; and might Heaven help him at his need as he dealt forth punishment to that man, if he

caught him within his grasp.

Those who had hitherto known Morton in the island, could not recognise the man as he came forth on that day, thirsty after blood, and desirous to thrust himself into

personal conflict with the wild ruffian who had injured him.

The meek Presbyterian minister had been a preacher, preaching ways of

peace, and living in accordance with his own doctrines.

The world had been very quiet for him, and he had walked quietly in his

appointed path.

But now the world was quiet no longer, nor was

there any preaching of peace.

His cry was for blood ; for the blood of the untamed savage brute who had come upon his young doe in her solitude, and striven with such brutal violence to tear her heart from her bosom.

3 He got to his assistance early in the morning some of the constables from St.

George, and before the day was over, he was joined by two

or three of the warders from the convict establishment.

There was with him also a friend or two, and thus a party was formed,

numbering together ten or twelve persons.

They were of course all armed, and therefore it might be thought that there would be but small chance for the wretched man if they should come upon his

track.

At first they all searched together, thinking from the tidings which had reached them that he must be near to them ; but gradually they spread themselves along the rocks between St.

George and the ferry, keeping watchman on the road, so that he should not escape unnoticed into the island.

4 Ten times during the day did Anastasia send from the cottage up to Morton, begging him to leave the search to others, and come down to

her.

But not for a moment would he lose the scent of his prey.

What!

Should it be said that she had been so treated, and that

others had avenged her?

He sent back to say that her father was

with her now, and that he would come when his work was over.

And in

that job of work the life - blood of Aaron Trow was counted up.

The worry of losing the money had been at the back of her mind all day.

That was why she had not allowed herself for a single moment to let go of the yellow plastic bag that her boss had given her.

All morning she had held it tight and when she suddenly noticed that the bag was gone she was in a state of shock.

At first Indira didnt know what to do.

She thought about all the people she had seen on the bus that morning.

There was one face she could not get out of her mind - the face of a tall young man.

Suddenly she was sure.

"It was him that tall young man who bumped into me after I got off the bus!

Im going to find you!

" Indira thought "if its the last thing I do today".

Нужен перевод срочно So we all drove away with three cheers for Mother, and Mother stood and watched us from the verandah for as long as she could see us, and Father waved his hand back to her every few minutes till he hit his hand on the back edge of the car, and then said that he didn't think that Mother could see us any longer.

Well, we had the loveliest day up among the hills that you could possibly imagine, and Father caught such big specimens that he felt sure that Mother couldn't have landed them anyway, if she had been fishing for them, and Will and I fished too, though we didn't get so many as Father, and the two girls met quite a lot of people that they knew as we drove along, and there were some young men friends of theirs that they met along the stream and talked to, and so we all had a splendid time.

It was quite late when we got back, nearly seven o'clock in the evening, but Mother had guessed that we would be late, so she had kept back the dinner so as to have it just nicely ready and hot for us.

Only first she had to get towels and soap for Father and clean things for him to put on, because he always gets so messed up with fishing, and that kept Mother busy for a little while, that and helping the girls get ready.

But at last everything was ready, and we sat down to the grandest kind of dinner - roast turkey and all sorts of things like on Xmas Day.

Mother had to get up and down a good bit during the meal fetching things back and forward, but at the end Father noticed it and said she simply mustn't do it, that he wanted her to spare herself, and he got up and fetched the walnuts over from the sideboard himself.

The dinner lasted a long while, and was great fun, and when it was over all of us wanted to help clear the things up and wash the dishes, only Mother said that she would really much rather do it, and so we let her, because we wanted just for once to humour her.

It was quite late when it was all over, and when we all kissed Mother before going to bed, she said it had been the most wonderful day in her life, and I think there were tears in her eyes.

So we all felt awfully repaid for all that we had done.

Помогите перевести Every evening she came out of the dark and stepped into the bright light of the street like a frightened child far from home.

I knew that she had never been at the end of the alley before eight o'clock, and yet there were evenings when I ran there two hours early and waited until she came.

During all those months I had known her, she had been late only two or three times, and then it was only ten or fifteen minutes past eight when she came.

Rachel had never told me where she lived, and she would never let me walk home with her.

Where the alley began was the door through which she came at eight, and the door which closed behind her at ten.

When I had asked her to let me walk with her, she always said that her father did not allow her to be with boys and that if he saw us together he would either beat her pitilessly or make her leave home.

Rachel had told me that almost every time I saw her, as if she wanted me to understand some sort of danger that lay in the darkness of the alley.

I knew there was no physical danger, because around the corner was our house and I knew the district as anyone else.

And besides during the day I usually walked through the alley to our back gate on my way home, because it was the short¬est way when I was late for supper.

But after dark the alley was Rachel's, and I had never gone home that way at night as I feared to see her or hear of her.

I had promised her from the beginning that I would never follow her to find out where she lived, and that I would never try to discover her real name.

I knew Rachel and her family were poor, because she had been wearing the same dress for nearly a year.

It was a worn but clean dress of blue cotton, and I knew she washed it every day.

Each evening when I saw her, I was worried because I knew that the cloth would not last for long.

I wanted to offer to buy her a dress with the few dollars I had in my bank, but I was afraid even to suggest such a thing to her.

I was sure that it would mean the end of my seeing her.

СРОЧНО!

Miss Carington was a famous actress.

She began her life in a small village named Cranberry.

But that was long ago.

Now she was to perform the leading part in a new comedy.

A capable young actor Highsmith by name dreamt of being Miss Carington’s partner in the new play.

He told it to the manager.

The manager explained to the young actor that if he wanted to play the part he must persuade Miss Carington to accept him as a partner.

The young actor knew very well that it was the part of a young farmer.

The next day he went to Cranberry where he stayed for three days and gathered much information about the life and the people of that small village.

Then he returned from the village and went to one of the restaurants where actors usually gathered after the performance.

He saw a small party sitting at the table.

The star of that party was Miss Carington.

She noticed a poorly dressed man entered the restaurant.

He approached the famous actress, greeted her and told her much interesting news about her relatives and friends from Cranberry.

The way he spoke made her believe every word he said.

She was sure he was a farmer.

In the end he told the famous actress that her mother wanted to see her again before she died.

Then he gave her a rose he picked up from a bush in front of her house in Cranberry.

Miss Carington was so touched that she couldn’t help cry¬ing.

She thanked the young man and invited him to see her again at the hotel before he left the city.

The next morning the young actor dressed in the latest fashion went to the hotel.

He was sure Miss Carington would agree to take him as a partner in the play if he told her everything.

To his surprise he was told that Miss Carington had left for her native village forever.

Highsmith realized that he had acted too well.

Помогите перевести текст THE BRIDGE Peter's parents died when he was a child of 5.

He was brought up by his grandmother who took great care of the child and did her best to make him happy.

But the boy was very shy and timid.

One day he took his bicycle and went for a ride.

Suddenly he saw another cyclist in the distance.

Soon he could see that the cyclist was a young girl.

As soon as the girl noticed Peter she increased her speed as she didn't want Peter to catch up with her.

Suddenly Peter remembered that a few yards ahead of them there was no road as the bridge across the river was under repairs.

Peter realised that the girl would run a terrible risk in case she tried to cross the bridge.

He cried out to her to stop, but it was too late.

The girl had reached the bridge and at once Peter saw her lose balance and fall into the water together with her bicycle.

When Peter rode up he saw the girl holding on to a board standing in the water.

Without a moment's hesitation he jumped into the water as he wanted to help the girl.

The current under the bridge was very strong and Peter had to swim against it.

At last he swam up to the board and saw the girl's frightened eyes looking at him with hope.

"Can you swim?

" asked Peter but the girl shook her head.

Peter ordered the girl to hold on to his neck and they both started for the bank.

It was very difficult for Peter to swim with such a burden and at moments it seemed to him that he could not stand the strain and that they both would be drowned.

When they reached the bank, Peter was so tired that he could hardly breathe.

When he came to himself he saw the girl looking at him with admiration.

"You are a real hero", she said.

"You are the bravest boy I've ever met", and she smiled.

And it was at that moment that Peter felt a great confidence in him¬self.

He was afraid of nothing now, he was able to overcome any difficulty.

Переведите пожалуйста Буду очень благодарна THE SCARLET FLOWER Once upon a time in a far away land a merchant was preparing to set out on a long journey.

This merchant had three daughters, and he asked all of them what they would like as gifts for themselves when he returned from his voyage.

The first daughter requested a golden crown, and the second one wanted a crystal mirror.

The third daughter asked only for «the little scarlet flower.

» The merchant set out on his journey.

It did not take him very long to find a beautiful golden crown and a fine crystal mirror.

He had difficulty however, finding the third gift, the scarlet flower.

He searched everywhere, and eventually his search led him into a magical forest.

Deep within these woods there was situated a palace, in whose courtyard grew a beautiful flower.

As the merchant drew closer to the flower he realized what it was, the scarlet flower.

Cautiously, the merchant picked the flower that his youngest daughter wanted so badly.

Upon picking the scarlet flower he was confronted by a hideous beast, who demanded that in return for picking the flower the merchant must send one of his daughters deep into the enchanted forest, to live with the beast forever.

Upon recieving the scarlet flower, the merchant’s youngest daughter agreed to go to the beast.

She journeyed alone into the forest and found the castle where she would dwell forever.

For a time, she lived there very happily.

The beast had not revealed himself to her, and showered her daily with kindness and gifts.

She started to grow quite fond of her invisible keeper, and one day asked that he show himself.

The beast reluctantly gave into her plea, and just as he had feared, she recoiled in terror at the site of him.

That night the girl had a haughnting dream about her father falling deathly ill.

She begged the beast to release her, so that she could find her dying father.

Touched by her concern, the beast released her on one condition — that she return to him in three days time.

The girl found her father, and prepared to return to the beast in the alloted time.

However, her sisters altered the time on the clocks, making her arrive late.

There upon her arrival the girl was horrified at what she encountered.

The beast was dead, lying there clutching her scarlet flower.

Heartbroken, the girl embraced the dead beast, and declared her love for him.

Having done this, she unknowingly broke the evil spell, and her beloved beast awoke, turning into a handsome prince.

They lived happily ever after.

Mrs.

Williams loved flowers and had a small but beautiful garden.

In the summer, her roses were always the best in the street.

One summer afternoon the bell rang, and when she went to the front door, she saw a small boy outside.

He was about seven years old, and was holding a big bunch of beautiful roses in his hand.

He said he was selling roses and asked Mrs.

Williams if she wanted some.

The boy added that they were quite cheap : five pence for a big bunch and that they were fresh, as he had picked them that afternoon.

Mrs. Williams told the boy that she picked roses whenever she wanted and she didn't pay anything for them, because she had lots in her garden.

The small boy said that she was mistaken, as there weren't any roses in her garden ; they were here in his hand!
