The American flag is known as THE STARS AND STRIPES.

It consists of fifty stars which represent the the fifty states.

Thirteen red and white horizontal stripes (seven red and six white) stand for the original thirteen Stated thet were united in 1776.

The first flag was called The Grand Union Flag.

It combined the flag of Great Britain with the thirteen stripes.

It showed that these first thirteen started were British colonies.

After rhe War of Independence , all thirteen states became free and flag changed.

The British flag in the corner was replaced by atars.

Every time a new state entered the Union, a star was added.

So now today`s flag shows the thirteen stripes for the original number of states in 1776 plus the 50 stars which represent today`s total.

Американский флаг известен как "звёзды и полосы".

На нём изображены 50 звёзд, олицетворяющих 50 штатов.

Тринадцать красных и белых горизонтальных полос (7 красных и 6 белых) характеризуют 13 изначальных штатов, объединённых в 1776 году.

Первоначальный флаг носил название Континентального.

Он объединялся с шестиполосным флагом Великобритании, что было символизировало то, что те 13 штатов были колониями Англии.

После войны за Независимость все штаты освободились, флаг сменился.

Британский флаг в углу сменился на звёзды.

Как только в Союз входил новый штат, добавлялась звезда.

Потому сегодня флаг имеет 13 полос по первоначальному числу штатов и 50 звёзд, отражающих современное положение.

Patrick's Day celebrations, the Scots — Halloween.
