TWO COURSES OF ACTION The problem of the environment crisis has recently assumed global proportions.

Both scientists and politicians agree that unless some radical steps are taken before long, life on our planet may be irrevocably damaged if not destroyed altogether.

It seems therefore worth while to consider the fundamental conflict which underlies the surface manifestations of the present crisis.

For there undoubtedly exists a conflict, an incompatibility between the tenets of an industrial society and those of ecology.

Industry is bound to expand continuously, all ecological systems tend toward stability equilibrium.

There seems to be at least two general courses of action which might be adopted in order that the environmental doom may be averted.

One would be to curb the dynamics of industrial development ; the other - to turn technology to the construction of physiologically and socially healthy environment, the former possibility being highly unrealistic, the latter one seems to be the only path to follow.

Environmental crisis assumed global proportions

because of the incompatibility between the tenets of an industrial society and

those of ecology.

Both scientists and politicians are worried since life

on our planet may be irrevocably damaged if not destroyed because of the

environment crisis.

3. How can we possibly avert the

destruction of the environment?

We can either curb the dynamics of industrial development or

turn technology to the construction of physiologically and socially healthy

environment.

4. Can you suggest any other courses of

action to protect the environment?

I can't suggest any more possible courses of action in

this situation since they all seem to be variations of previously mentioned paths.

I think they should be in charge of the Earht.

There are many big and small rivers, green forests, high mountain, lakes and seas in russia.

Our earth is our home.

I thing people must take care of our Motherland.

There are some laws and decisions on this important subject.

We have state organizations which pay attentions to this problem.

The international conventions pay much attention to the control of pollution too.

There are a lot of industrial enterprises in our country that's why we can't ignore the problem of the protection of our environment.

Our main aim is the protection.

Our environment must be clean.

What must we do for it?

We have to control atmospheric and water pollution, to study the man's influence on the climate.

The pollution of the environment influences the life of animals, plants and our human life.

Over the next decade alone, because of the investment made in the Energy Star Programme, Americans will save more that 24 billion dollars and help reduce millions of tons of harmful pollutants.

And the best things about it – we’re not just saving money ; we’re reducing pollution, protecting the environment.

Such ecological problems will not be solved by government.

They will not be solved by business.

They will be solved by us.

On both sides of the head there are the ears.

The eye is composed of the eyeball and the pupil.

The eyebrows, lashes and the lids protect theeyes.

The oral cavity contains the teeth which are set in the gums, the tongue, the hard and the soft palate, the tonsils and the throat.

The margins of the mouth are the lips.

The jaws form the framework of the mouth.

We see with our eyes.

The heart pumps blood to various parts of the body.

The organs of digestion are contained in the oral cavity, in the thoracic cavity and in the abdominal cavity.

Digestion begins in the mouth.

From the mouth food passes in to the esophagus which is in the thoracic cavity.

Through the esophagus food passes into the stomach and the intestines where it is further digested.

The liver, spleen and the gall­bladder also take part in the process of digestion.

The main excretory organs are the kidneys, the ureters, the urethra and the urinary bladder.

The organs of excretion excrete waste products.

The body is coveredwith the skin.

The back and the top of the head are covered with hair.

At the finger - tips there are the nails.

The nervous systemconsists of nerves, the brain and the medulla.

The osseous system consists of bones which support the body.

Their places of articulation are called the joints.

The muscular system consists of muscles which contract and move the limbs.

The main bones which form the skeleton are the skull, the vertebral column which consists of vertebrae, the ribs, the scapulae, the clavicles and the sternum which form the thoracic cavity, and the pelvic bones.

The humerus, the ulna, the radius are the bones which form the upper limbs.

The femur, the tibia and the fibula are bones which form the lower extremities.

The main glands ofthe human body are the secretory glands, such as the thyroid, the pancreas, the suprarenal and the salivary glands.

The excretory glands are the sweat glands, the adipose glands and the lacrimal glands.

The arm is formed by the shoulder, the upper arm, the elbow and the forearm.

The hand consists of the wrist, the palm, the fingers and the thumb.

The leg is formed by the hip, the thigh, the knee, the shank, the calf, the ankle.

The foot consists of the heel, the sole and the toes.

The substance which forms the human body consists of cells, fibers and tissues.
