Если перевести, то понятно почему мы ставим это время : он хочет показать, что долго сидел и пытался вспомнить, кроме того, мне бы хотелось поставить past continuous, но не можем так как не определен точный момент времени, а это требует past continuous.
I have been learning действие началось в прошлом и продолжается до настоящего момента, процесс ;
I have been talking - аналогично первому ;
I have been waiting
I have been looking
В целом чтобы объяснить, легче понять когда нам надо его использовать :
Это время фокусируется на длительном характере деятельности (действий), когда тебе необходимо выразить длительность, долгоиспользуется для действий, начавшихся в прошлом и продолжающихся в настоящем, либо закончившихся только и результат актуален сейчас.
Очень часто сопровождается словами : for (5) years, since, for ages.
